Tomorrow, a concert organised by the Polish Defense Ministry will be held at the EU’s external border with Belarus, called “wall behind the Polish uniform” (“Murem za polskim mundurem”).
This is a sentence we never thought we would write. But a lot has become possible in recent years that was previously unthinkable.
This concert is meant to “show support for troops defending the eastern border”. To be clear: the troops are not defending the border against a foreign power, antagonistic soldiers or terrorists.
The troops are “defending” the border against a couple of thousand people, men, women and children, seeking international protection as is their right enshrined in European and international law. For months, they have been freezing, starving, and dying at the EU- Belarusian borders. Abused, beaten and pressured from both sides. Journalists, NGOs, activists: nobody is allowed to enter the heavily militarised zone, nobody is there to monitor human rights violations.
Yes, these people have clearly been used as pawns, as weapons, by a neighboring authoritarian regime once again. But, and this is crucial: it is not their fault or choice. It is the fault and the choice of the EU that still has no answers, vision or policies for migration other than externalisation and deterrence. The minute the EU-Turkey deal was signed, this outcome - people being abused as leverage, blackmailing tools and weapons - was inevitable. Turkey, Morocco, Belarus. And there will be others if Europe does not find a joint policy on safe passage to replace externalisation.
Instead of supporting those who still believe in the EU’s promises and those trying to defend the values the union was originally built on and the rule of law in Europe, these artists are giving themselves away for the propaganda of the same disgusting war on migration and human dignity as all the officers committing systematic fundamental rights violations at the borders of Greece, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Spain, Libya, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, North Macedonia, Hungary, Italy, France, Austria, Slovenia, Spain, and now Lithuania, Estonia, Poland - funded by the EU.
It is decision time in the fight for our democracy and humanity.
After years of impunity for systematic crimes against humanity committed all across the EUs borders, increasing criminalisation of movement, people on the move and all those standing in solidarity with them, we are now at a point where we need to choose sides and make one last attempt to protect the values the European Union was founded on: respect for human dignity and human rights, freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of law.
We therefore call on Lou Bega (Mambo No 5), No Mercy (Where do you go), Las Ketchup (Ketchup Song), Loona (Bailando), Captain Jack (Captain Jack), Ace of Base lead singer Jenny Berggren (All that she wants) and all others to immediately withdraw their participation in this propaganda campaign to justify the systematic fundamental rights violations that will go down in history as the beginning of another period of fascism in Europe.
Join us in letting these artists know that while they will be performing, people continue dying at that same border. Join us and let them know that their performance is contributing to the legitimacy of a racist narrative celebrating and supporting those breaking the most fundamental human rights.
Let these artists (many of which are themselves BIPOC) know that performing at this concert means choosing the wrong side of history and the wrong side of the fight against this racist, increasingly fascist regime.
Use our email and social media post drafts below or send the artists a personal message urging them to reconsider their choice to perform at this sickening event tomorrow:

You are set to perform at a concert called “wall behind the Polish uniform“.
After years of impunity for systematic crimes against humanity committed all across the EU’s borders, increasing criminalisation of movement, people on the move and all those standing in solidarity with them, we are now at a point where we need to choose sides and make one last attempt to protect the values the European Union was founded on: respect for human dignity and human rights, freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of law.
We therefore call on you to immediately withdraw your participation in this fascist, racist propaganda campaign.
You need to know that while you will be performing, people will continue dying at that same border (and many others).
You need to know that your performance is serving the legitimacy of a racist narrative celebrating and supporting the violation of the most fundamental human rights.
You need to know that we are currently witnessing the establishment of a new fascist era in Europe and you need to know that your performance will be written about in history books - and that you get to choose which side you will be mentioned on.
Performing at this concert means nothing less than choosing the wrong side of the fight against this racist, increasingly fascist regime and, quite frankly, the wrong side of history.
Make your choice before setting foot on that stage tomorrow.
